Foshan Open Becomes Asia Pacific's First GEO Certified Tournament for Sustainability

The 2019 Foshan Open has established itself as a pioneering event by becoming the first GEO Certified Tournament in the Asia Pacific region. Administered by the Scotland-based GEO Foundation, this internationally recognized certification underscores sustnability practices within golf operations.

Foshan Golf Club, located in Guangdong Province of China, has annually hosted the tournament since its inception in 2013, and concurrently embarked on a mission to integrate sustnable practices into its activities throughout the year. Building upon its status as a GEO Certified Facility since 2013, achieving certification for the 2019 Foshan Open amplifies the club's notable leadership in eco-frily golf initiatives not only in China but also across the wider region.

While celebrating this milestone, the organizers of the Foshan Open are committed to continuous improvement. They m to advance sustnability efforts annually, envisioning their event as a platform that celebrates more than just golf; it promotes sustnable living and healthy lifestyles through innovative programs.

We are thrilled that the 2019 Foshan Open was recognized as the first tournament in the Asia Pacific region to receive GEO Tournament Certification.

Our event is inspired by innovation and creativity, enabled by the support of numerous local governmental agencies, including Foshan and Guangdong authorities, the China Golf Association, the European Challenge Tour, our principal sponsor New World China, along with several partners and sponsors. Over the last seven years, we've developed more than just a golf tournament; it's become an international celebration med at educating people on adopting healthy sustnable practices.

We're not content with just achieving certification; instead, we're ming to use this platform as a springboard for further sustnability gns in our community while inspiring other tournaments and golf clubs in the region. To achieve certification, tournament organizers meticulously curated a custom-built program tlored for golf events, which included rigorous document submission, evidence review, third-party validation by GEO Foundation, and agreement to Continuous Improvement Points for future iterations.
