In October of 2011, Lake Malaren Golf Club welcomed the prestigious Lake Malaren Shangh Masters tournament. This event, with a planned duration through 2015 and featuring an impressive $5 million prize pool including a top prize of $2 million for the winner, attracted some of the world's best golfers. To ensure optimal preparation and execution for such a high-profile event, Lake Malaren Golf Club engaged the global leader in golf course designthe Nicklaus Design teamto revamp its existing courses.
The completion of this redesign project was seamlessly executed within an impressive timeframe of just 16 months post-project commencement. As the first Jack Nicklaus Legacy Golf Course to open in Asia, this initiative has become a pivotal focus for Lake Malaren. The mn conceptual theme was to create an internationally acclmed championship course that would challenge seasoned players while mntning frness and enjoyment for all golf enthusiasts, from beginners to average players.
The South Lakes Course, which now stands as the Shangh Masters' designated venue, showcases Jack Nicklaus's hallmark natural parkland design style, integrating ecological elements like trees, native grasses, water bodies, and pronounced topography that adds significant elevation changes. This course presents a visually appealing and strategically robust layout that is both aesthetically pleasing and conducive to skillful play.
